The Vital Records Division maintains the official records of birth and deaths occurring in Jackson County.  Only persons born in Jackson County are able to obtain a birth certificate through the Jackson County Health Department.  Records for the towns of Seymour and Brownstown start in 1882, and the rural areas of the county start in 1895.  The State of Indiana required that deaths be recorded starting in 1900 and births in October 1907.
