The Vital Records Division maintains the official records of birth and deaths occurring in Jackson County.  Records for the towns of Seymour and Brownstown start in 1882, and the rural areas of the county start in 1895.  The State of Indiana required that deaths be recorded starting in 1900 and births in October 1907.

Local health departments issue birth and death certificates for those born locally and may now do so for those born in other Indiana counties as well.  Limitations may apply. Otherwise, for births and deaths outside of Jackson County, please contact the State or County Health Department where the event occurred.
