Bed Bugs

Bed bugs (Cimex lectularius) have been a common pest throughout history. However, the development of pesticides in the middle of the 20th century led to a dramatic drop of bed bug populations in the U.S. More recently, bedbugs have made a resurgence, probably due to pesticide resistance and increased international travel.

Helpful Resources
Although bed bugs are not known to transmit any diseases, they are a concern to many people. The following links contain general information on the life-cycle and biology of bed bugs, as well as information on how to handle infested mattresses and what to do if you believe you have stayed somewhere currently infested.

Any swimming pools other than those serving single-family dwellings are considered public swimming pools. These include schools, hotels, apartments, or condominiums.

Public swimming pools within Jackson County are inspected and weekly water quality testing is monitored by the Health Department. The inspections are based on State statutes and are performed to ensure that acceptable water quality and safe facilities are maintained thus lessening the chance of disease transmission or injury.
